Just removed vista from a dell inspiron 1525 and installed ubuntu’s new offering jaunty
I used the 64 bit version which took 30 mins to download the ISO rapid servers! The install was a breeze after answering around 5 questions it was away! It ate the install around 15 minustes later I was logging on! I tested all the usual things wireless – sound – webcam – video all just worked straight out of the box no messing!! I played a mp3 with rhythmnbox and it went off and got the required codecs! I went into synaptic and installed java plugin and flash plugin and amsn.
This has give this laptop a new lease of life my mate complained it was slow out of the box with vista – well this has 64 bit linux power and now its powerful
If your looking for a decent laptop around the £300 mark get a dell inspiron 1525 – you can walk into currys and buy them of the shelf!! fire jaunty on it and your away.

Very interesting meeting talked about window various window managers and had a great demo of andy a 3D virtual tour he built using java script. Then we set of down to the bobbin to catch a band but they all finished! (at 10 oclock!!??) anyway we moved onto the penny bank and caught the blues band in there which were pretty darn poor and then finished up the night in hustle!! Great meeting

I downloaded the new jaunty image from ubuntu’s site – I then installed usb-imagewriter wchich writes the image file to a USB key as netbooks dont have a cdrom no need to hook a external cd reader just install straight from the USB key!! wonder if you can do this with windows!! duh!.. anyway booted of the key and the install was a breeze around 5 questions and away we go! 15 minutes laster i had rebooted into the new shiny ubunty jaunty!! all the screen sizes correct during the install which has always been a bit of a problem! Well this was the fastest boot ive ever seen faster than windows 7 defo!! Logged onto the acer aspire – everything works no issues at all!! sorted!
Now on the asus i noticed it was a tad jerky so after a search i found there is a bug which will be fixed by doing a update during the install soon but for now download these two files:
move into the directory you have them in install them from a terminal typing
sudo dpkg -i * (as long as there is only these two packages in this directory!)
after the packages install reboot and your away no more problems.
I like the feature of swapping between netbook desktop or classic
Ubuntu is really going for it now
Just installed call of duty 4 on the macbook
The price was very reasonable and delivery was fast – amazon has loads of macintosh games including all the sims2 collection!!
The install was just a breeze and the game runs awsome – ive never seen a game run so smooth !!!!
So if some one tells says "you cant play games on a mac or linux"
A total load of crap!!!
Gaming on the mac and linux is the next step and is happening big now
GAME ON!!!
