Normailze – Error cant exec on debain and ubuntu

Normalize is handy for getting mp3 files and ogg files all at the same level
Its easy as this

apt-get install lame normalize

Now when you install it – its broke!?! so

nano /usr/bin/normalize-mp3

Replace the line that reads:

$MP3ENCODE = ” -quiet %w %m”; with
$MP3ENCODE = “lame -quiet %w %m”;

Save the file with ctrl and w

Now get to the directory with the mp3′s and type
normalize-mp3 *.mp3

Easy let it make all your mp3 files the same level!!

Linux Meeting

Hello and sorry for the late meeting minutes!!
We had a short meeting this month as i was also at another meeting on the same night!!!  The morecambe mini club at the strawberry gardens..
Anyway I got there nice and early but some had stole our seats in the green room!! Anyway ken turned up and we had a chat at the bar about vista on his new computer microsofts biggest failure!! then dave turned up and then andy for a while as he had another meeting aswell!!
We had a look at kens new laptop and looked at suse linux 11 – very impressive runnning yast in the console and kstars and a graphic stacking program.
The laptop ran great very responsive I even tried suse out myself after seeing that you can add a realtime kernel patch for audio editing and you get kde 4 built on the new suse 11 live image..  i blogged it at www.wayneward.co.uk

We also talked about various discussions we could have

Me:  Install and setup kolab server – configure domain and users – add shared calendar / contacts / notes / events – add kontact client to kolab server.

Ken – Graphic editing using – gimp / krita – Basic editing and layers.

Andy – Music editing part II- Midi editing

Please let us know if you have anything you would like to talk about
or if you have any comments about the ideas we have if your intrested in these etc.

Regards
Wayne :-)

Opensuse 11 The plunge

Ok i took the plunge!! I looked into it and i see you can add the real time kernel to open suse 11 so i can still record + i get kde 4! and kontact the latest kontact !!
I got the live cd image down which took 3 hours?? for a 600 meg image! oh well….
I popped in the cd got a live desktop – nice looking apart from not configuring me second monitor i thoght well this will be okay after a reboot job ive seen this during a install before!! Anyway started the install and it kicked of about a partion problem which ive never seen before!! Anyway i thought nothing of it! got through the install which was fairly fast!!!!
reboot
Second monitor still doesnt work and isnt detected!! hell! ok ill try and sort that after !
Tried kontact ran through the kolab wizard all goes fine!!!
Try kontact not fine !! agggghhh!!!
After a hour of messing and noticing that half of the apps are for kde 3 and not getting the second monitor to work i thought stuff this ive made a BIG mistake here get back to 64studio which well works!!
Went for the reinstall i have to add a line when im starting the install so it see’s the sata drives
install generic.all_deneric_ide=1
and then it works all cool
apart from suse had removed and stuffed up my data drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shit!!! luckily enough i have all my photos on my laptop!!! which i lost once before and it was a nightmare
But i lost my game collection yes all my top games!!
and wait for it!!!!! my music collection nnnnnoooooooooooooo!!!!!!
I cant tell you how long it took to build this.
Im now looking through my backups
All i can say is be careful back your data up!!!!!!!
And use debian!!!! its never mashed my data before!!
Trust me this wasnt a human mistake this was done by suse Ive been doing this for a long time
now and I wouldnt make these mistakes!!!!!!! baaaaaaaa!
